UNG: Bokklubb

Would you like to read with us? Are you between 15 and 25? UNG: Bokklubb invites you! We read, chat, laugh and explore literature—without any pressure, at our own pace. You can read in English, Norwegian or the original language. You can help choose the next book, and we appreciate your recommendations! Whether you’ve read the book or not, you’re welcome! Feel free to bring a craft project to work on, or another book you’d like to share. We’ll have snacks and some knitting and drawing supplies. The book club is a great place to hang out, meet new people and relax. We explore themes from books and talk a little about life. UNG: Bokklubb in Bjørvika meets four times this autumn, once a month. There’s a lovely stack of books ready to borrow for everyone who attends. For 1 December, we’ll be reading James Baldwin’s masterpiece from the jazz scene in Harlem, "Another Country" / "Et annet land", which was considered a literary sensation when it was published in 1962. We’ll also begin the meeting with shared reading, where an excerpt from the book is read aloud. We’ll pause along the way to discuss what we’ve read. If you haven’t read the book by 1 December, don’t worry. We’ll continue with it at the next meeting, and we’ll have some copies available to borrow at the meeting. Follow us on TikTok/Insta (@deichman.ung) to stay up to date with what’s happening. For young people only! Everything is, of course, free and drug- and alcohol-free. La Défense-trilogien

Like enigmatic Greek tragedies from Paris’s business district of La Défense French-Lebanese filmmaker Valentin Noujaïm has set his trilogy in La Défense, the brutalist business district in Paris built on cleared slums and farmland in the 1960s. The area becomes a starting point for exploring the histories of minorities that the French state has erased or overlooked. The films blend documentary, fiction and genre cinema, moving freely between the past, present and unsettling futures. Pacific Club is an elegy for the nightclub in the basement beneath La Défense. It was the city’s first nightlife venue for an Arab audience, and a refuge for immigrant children from the suburbs in the 1980s. In To Exist Under Permanent Suspicion, Kayije Kagame (Saint Omer) plays a Black businesswoman in a chilly office tower, where a neo-noir dream state stirs fantasies of revolt and destruction. The darkest part, Demons to Diamonds, depicts a society marked by surveillance and paranoia, on the brink of collapse as a wave of suicides spreads. The trilogy searches for tenderness and resistance in the city’s shadows, but also suggests that destruction can be a path to rebirth. As Denis Lavant puts it in Demons to Diamonds: «I destroy the Panthéon, so everything can begin again.» The films will be followed by a conversation with Noujaïm. Valentin Noujaïm is a French-Lebanese artist and filmmaker who studied screenwriting at La Fémis in Paris. In film and installation, he combines fiction, documentary and archival material to explore political, social and architectural collapse. La Défense-trilogien has been shown at, among others, MoMA, Centre Pompidou, CPH:DOX and IFFR, and at Kunsthalle Basel, where he held his first institutional solo exhibition in 2025. Pacific Club France/Qatar 2023 With: Azedine Benabdelmouene, Taos Bertrand and Julien Mezence 16 min. To Exist Under Permanent Suspicion France 2024 With: Kayije Kagame 14 min Demons to Diamonds France/Canada/Switzerland/Italy/Qatar 2025 With: Kayije Kagame, Denis Lavant and Félix Maritaud 29 min. Commissioned by Kunsthalle Basel in collaboration with The Vega Foundation and Lo Schermo dell’Arte.

Arlo Parks

Arlo Parks has announced a global headline tour in connection with her new album «Ambiguous Desire» – and towards the end of 2026, the British artist is coming to Parkteatret to bring some light to the darkest time of the year! Arlo Parks has been described as “the voice of her generation”, won the Mercury Music Prize for her debut album «Collapsed in Sunbeams», been named Breakthrough Artist at the 2021 BRIT Awards, and received nominations for both a Grammy and an Ivor Novello Award. Her follow-up, «My Soft Machine», featuring the song «Pegasus» with Phoebe Bridgers, was followed by extensive international touring. In 2025, she was appointed a UNICEF ambassador, becoming the youngest person ever to hold the role, and spent the year doing humanitarian work. In April, she releases her long-awaited third album, «Ambiguous Desire». With influences ranging from the queer hedonism of New York’s Paradise Garage to the dark, nocturnal British beats of The Streets and Burial, the shimmering synth catharsis of LCD Soundsystem and the earthy house grooves of Theo Parrish, «Ambiguous Desire» finds Parks at her most confident and experimental. A soundtrack to uninhibited self-expression – an life-affirming new work from one of music’s most untameable voices. Stay tuned for more from Arlo Parks soon. What’s been said about Arlo Parks: «No wonder she is being talked about as one of the voices of her generation.» – The Times «an artist who consistently makes poring over the lyric sheet line-by-line as much fun as the finished product.» – NME «Parks achieves an emotional resonance that’s unflinchingly sincere.» – Rolling Stone «a triumph.» – Clash «as close to perfection as it gets.» – Dork «A colossal talent.» – Vogue - Listen (https://tidal.com/artist/9160820/u) Valid ID is required at all our events. We only accept physical ID (passport, ID card or driving licence). The concert is presented by Live Nation. Venue: Parkteatret, Olaf Ryes plass 11, 0552 Oslo

Jack Presenterer! PETER PETERSEN (1953-2020) A MOURNING PLAY

At this year’s final Jack presenterer! screening, we show PETER PETERSEN (1953-2020) A MOURNING PLAY by Joen Vedel. After the screening, there will be a conversation between filmmaker Joen Vedel and Mike Sperlinger, curator and professor of theory at KHIO. Finally, Filmbyrået Jack invites you to enjoy a light meal! “Your body’s story accuses political history,” writes French author Edvard Louis in his book about his father, “Who Killed My Father?”. In PETER PETERSEN (1953-2020) A MOURNING PLAY, Vedel tells of his father’s death through objects and images: keys, postcards that were never sent, ashtrays and toys. By calling it a mourning play and using an experimental form, the film embodies a critique not only of a world made up of mass-produced objects, but also of commercial, often streamlined filmmaking. “By leaning into the tragedy of the theatrical form of the mourning play, I want to invite the audience to join me in my process of grieving, in order to de-individualise grief. Because grief is not just mine; every form of loss also contains a political dimension.” ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: Joen Vedel is a visual artist, filmmaker and organiser. Vedel’s practice includes critical media archives, film, installation, text, performance, curating, facilitation, activism and various forms of open collaboration. His work often explores the representation of political events, both large and small, and the possibilities for engaging with them as they unfold. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York, and completed a PhD in artistic research at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art. His work has been exhibited at, among other places, Documenta 15 in Kassel, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Overgaden in Copenhagen and, most recently, Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo. Mike Sperlinger, who will talk with Joen after the screening, is professor of writing practice at Kunstakademiet i Oslo. He works as a curator and has written for several film journals. He also helped establish Lux, a London-based organisation working with moving images. He has edited several books, including Afterthought : New Writing on Conceptual Art (2005) and Here is Information. Mobilise. Selected writings by Ian White. ABOUT THE JACK PRESENTERER! AUTUMN PROGRAMME: “It is not true,” writes Ernest Hemingway in the essay The Art of the Short Story, “that if a lady appears in the first paragraph of a story she must appear later to justify her presence. You can get rid of her, just as in life.” “It is also untrue that if there is a gun on the wall when you begin the story, it must be fired by page 14.” “Yes, it can be a symbol, but perhaps it is just hanging there?” The films in this autumn’s programme take Hemingway at his word: we must draw the threads and possible conclusions ourselves. The filmmakers use the film essay, symbolism, archival material and, not least, narrative images as commentary on the world we have created and live in. The films are short, and emerge from personal and local perspectives. They show how specific, place-based experiences connect to broader ideological shifts and political unrest, and how history leaves traces in our own time. Look out for more Jack Presenterer screenings in spring 2027! JACK PRESENTERER! is a monthly screening series at Vega Scene, organised by Filmbyrået Jack, with the aim of highlighting work at the intersection of art and film. The programme for autumn 26 and spring 27 is curated by filmmaker Birgitte Sigmundstad. The series is realised with support from Stiftelsen Fritt Ord and Kulturrådet. Fire eventyr med Reinette og Mirabelle

A subtle, understated film by Eric Rohmer. Fire eventyr… unfolds in summer, with the light, gently swaying summer mood that characterizes many of Rohmer’s films. Mirabelle, a young woman from Paris, spends her holiday in the countryside, where she meets Reinette. They become good friends, and as the holiday draws to a close, Mirabelle invites Reinette to share her apartment in Paris. Reinette accepts, and the film follows their life in Paris, where Reinette, among other things, tries her hand at painting. The film has many beautiful moments — such as when the two young women get up at dawn to experience «the blue hour», when night turns into day. Conversation with Dag Johan Haugerud Before the screening on Tuesday 1. desember, director Dag Johan Haugerud will talk about his relationship with Eric Rohmer. The conversation is presented in collaboration with Fragment[et] - tidsskrift for kulturfilosofisk analyse. (https://www.fragmentet.no/) Their exchanges, sharp as garlic and sweet as smiles, are as naive as they are knowing. Washington Post Part of Mr. Rohmer’s genius, of course, is that he keeps creating such lives - ordinary and rarefied at once, almost but not quite beyond our grasp. No one actually lives in the world of a Rohmer film, where the name of a specific television show or rock star never mars a character’s timeless dialogue, where his characters’ heightened sense of everyday life seems absolutely adventurous. But the deep lure of his work is the suggestion that it is possible to be as articulate or as witty or even as extravagantly morose as a Rohmer character, to stumble across those undramatic moments of perfect grace on some beach or in some meadow. Caryn James, The New York Times

TeaTime med Vanja

The book club and writing! Are you interested in books and writing? For ages 13 to 23! TeaTime is our little club for young adults and teenagers! Whether it’s a book you read when you were little, a year ago or last week, you don’t need to prepare anything, and there are no expectations of you — except that you’re ready to chat and laugh. If the conversation doesn’t get going, we’ll have some interesting topics ready to get us thinking. For example: What’s the most intense death you’ve read about in a book? What’s a sentence you’ve read that still comes to mind from time to time? Which book has actually made you laugh out loud? Everyone can then share which book (and scene) they thought of. We’ll hear about each other’s books, the worst books we’ve read, and the best ones. GOLDEN HOUR has also become part of TeaTime. It’s last year’s writing club. I LOVE writing. Do you like writing? Do you have something on your mind? Come and sit down with us to write (I’ll be writing too). Whether it’s for 5 seconds, 15 minutes, 38, 59 or a whole hour, you write for as long as you like. If you want, you can chat about writing, get a few writing tips, write with others, or sit undisturbed in a corner. There will, OF COURSE, be tea, biscuits and hot chocolate. You’re welcome to hang out for as long as you like. After all, it’s just TeaTime.

Her (2013)

What happens when a machine gets to know us better than our friends and partners? Can we get hooked on a relationship that never disagrees with us? Fritt Ord and Vega Scene invite you to a screening of Spike Jonze’s Her from 2013, followed by a panel discussion. After the film, documentary filmmaker Tonje Hessen Schei, who made films including Praying for Armageddon, iHuman and Drone, will talk with psychologist and author Sissel Gran, who has written extensively about becoming hooked on romantic relationships, and Petter Bae Brandtzæg, a professor at the University of Oslo and one of the leading researchers on relationships between people and chatbots. The discussion will be moderated by Tellef Raabe, project manager at Fritt Ord. About the film: Theodore makes a living writing heartfelt letters on behalf of people who cannot write them themselves. Then he falls in love with his operating system. When director Spike Jonze’s modern classic Her came out in 2013, the idea was science fiction. Today, millions of people have daily conversations with AI assistants that remember what they have told them, respond in warm voices and always have time. Her, starring Joaquin Phoenix with Scarlett Johansson as the voice of Samantha, won the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Screenplay. The film remains perhaps the most precise depiction of what happens when technology moves into the most private parts of our lives. And reality is imitating fiction: When OpenAI launched its voice assistant in 2024, CEO Sam Altman posted one word on X: «her». The voice sounded like Johansson’s. What does it do to us when a machine gets to know us better than our friends and partners? Can we get hooked on a relationship that never disagrees with us? And how does a chatbot affect the way we see the world? After the film, documentary filmmaker Tonje Hessen Schei, who made films including Praying for Armageddon, iHuman and Drone, will talk with psychologist and author Sissel Gran, who has written extensively about becoming hooked on romantic relationships, and Petter Bae Brandtzæg, a professor at the University of Oslo and one of the leading researchers on relationships between people and chatbots. Kåre & the Cavemen

Kåre & the Cavemen play «Long Day’s Flight ‘Till Tomorrow»! Kåre & the Cavemen’s classic «Long Day’s Flight ‘Till Tomorrow» from 1999 was reissued on LP this summer on record shop Big Dipper’s Round 2 label, beautifully packaged with an exclusive memorabilia poster and an essay by King Midas’ Ando Woltmann. To mark the release, the band was asked to perform the album in its entirety at the eclectic Lyse Netter festival in Moss on 12 June. After some hesitation, the five members, who had not played together since 2015, accepted the invitation. To do justice to the album’s complex material and adapt it for a live setting, the band brought in two exceptionally skilled and versatile additional musicians: Amund Stenøien on vibraphone and Bendik Brænne on horns. The audience response was overwhelming, and the new live line-up sounded so good and tight that Kåre & the Cavemen have decided to play a pre-Christmas concert at Parkteatret, performing «Long Day’s Flight ‘Till Tomorrow» and perhaps a few surprises as well. More than 30 years after their breakthrough on national television, guitarist Knut Schreiner, drummer Kåre, João Pedersen and the rest of the band are looking forward to giving their fans a new and unique concert experience. Vildebjønns Selskap // Kafè Hærverk

2 desember | 20:00 | admission 250 incl. fees | Vildebjønns Selskap is a folk trio that performs original music in Norwegian. The trio follows in the footsteps of the 1970s folk tradition, with conversational lyrics and jazz elements in the form of unusual, shifting time signatures and surprising chord progressions. The members are Ingeborg Fjørtoft, Åsmund Erichsen and Erling Wold. Colin Lilius Karlsen often joins them on double bass. Vildebjønns Selskap released the album «Skrike høyt og spytte litt» on 10. april, to glowing reviews from Klassekampen, Dag og Tid, Dagens Næringsliv and STOFF magasin, among others! After their concert at BLÅ during Musikkfest in June, Dagsavisen also called Vildebjønns Selskap one of Oslo’s best bands. The group makes up half of Hersleb visekollektiv and has played across Norway, riding the new wave of Norwegian folk music, at venues including Verftet, Victoria and kvarteret in Bergen, Kongsberg Jazzfestival and Uffa in Trondheim. They host monthly, packed folk music evenings and clubs at Josefine Vertshus and Hjelms Gate 3, and have toured Norway during the past two summers. Hersleb Visekollektiv released an album this autumn, was named Gaffa’s artist of the week and was interviewed on NRK P1 as the Thursday artist. The collective is an important foundation of the new folk music wave and has organised countless folk music evenings around the country. They are an active bunch, regularly playing to full houses.

Small Roads

The roads less traveled – seen through James Benning’s camera lens. James Benning is known for films where literally nothing happens. Films such as 13 Lakes, L Cohen, Nightfall and Allensworth consist of a series of sequences with minimal movement in front of the camera; in a couple of them, you can just make out people in the distance. Otherwise, the films are made up of static shots in which the wind rustling through the trees and clouds drifting across the sky create the dramatic tension (and the fact that dramatic tension really does emerge is what makes Benning’s films so wonderful and unique). In this light, Small Roads is almost an action film by Benning’s standards, with cars and trains thundering past the camera again and again. But not quite. Filmed over a period of two years, Small Roads takes us to 47 remote roads across the United States. Using a static camera, Benning films the roads and landscapes, creating a distinctive topographical portrait of the United States through the changing seasons. The film makes us reflect on our role as viewers and the expectations we bring to a film. It has no narrative progression; instead, it is a series of moving landscape paintings, with a surprisingly rich range of natural sounds on the soundtrack. Drama emerges in the most unexpected ways: in the form of a bus that never arrives and lightning strikes on the horizon. One of the most meditative experiences I’ve ever had with a film. Steve Pulaski [James Benning] is a national treasure to be reckoned with: the Frederick Wiseman of stillness. SLANT Magazine Small roads is digital cinema as virtuoso landscape painting, depicting each two-lane blacktop from a central perspective, each 16:9 countryside highway glistening under the hot sun, shrouded in fog, or coated with a dusting of mid-winter snow. International Film Festival Rotterdam From a cactus-edged highway across a desert, through deep woods and along pleasant byways that could be in deepest England, through badlands, alongside spoiled industrial sites, past the surprising magnificence of telegraph poles, and, in one case, a marvellous juxtaposition of modern bright yellow road signs with a horizon of impossibly romantic mountains that could have been painted by one of the early American landscape artists . Taxi Driver

Robert De Niro in his legendary role as Vietnam veteran and taxi driver Travis Bickle. Captured in dreamlike images, the familiar yellow New York taxi glides through rain-soaked streets amid clouds of steam, accompanied by Bernard Herrmann’s film-noir-style score. Blinking neon lights reflect in the cab’s gleaming paintwork and in the eyes of its driver, Travis Bickle, played by a dazzling Robert De Niro. A Vietnam veteran with no sense of belonging, he is a sleepless driver who observes the criminals, prostitutes and drug addicts of the night—a society full of trash and degradation. Many labelled Taxi Driver as glorifying violence when it came out. Travis’s personal crusade is undoubtedly portrayed with a certain fascination. The film has also been defended as an endorsement of a brutal vigilante philosophy; conversely, Travis has been described as a Jesus figure on the verge of cleansing the temples of the 1970s. More soberly, we can characterise Taxi Driver as 1970s film noir, with equal measures of realism and existentialism. Screenwriter Paul Schrader deserves much of the credit for making the film spark a wealth of associations without allowing it to be pinned down to a single idea. Taxi Driver also stands out as a showcase for its actors. It was the film that truly launched Robert De Niro’s career, and it featured Jodie Foster’s debut role. Taxi Driver also brought Martin Scorsese his major international breakthrough, winning, among other honours, the Palme d’Or for Best Film at Cannes. A brilliant nightmare and like all nightmares it doesn’t tell us half of what we want to know. Roger Ebert, The Chicago Sun-Times Taxi Driver was not just a hit but, like Psycho or Bonnie and Clyde, an event in American popular culture (…) Brilliant and yet repellent, at times even hateful, Taxi Driver inspired understandable ambivalence. Everything Everywhere All at Once

Meet Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, who will talk about some of her sources of inspiration and how she helped create the hit game. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the first release from French studio Sandfall Interactive and became one of the most talked-about, critically acclaimed and award-winning games of 2025. The game takes us into a beautiful, dark fantasy world where a mysterious painter wakes each year and paints a number, killing everyone who is exactly that age. An expedition sets out in an attempt to stop her. Jennifer Svedberg-Yen worked in finance for many years before choosing a different path. Over a five-year period, she explored everything from self-defence to dance and NASA experiments, and also began writing. During the pandemic, she happened to get in touch with Guillaume Broche, who was looking for voice actors for a personal game he was developing on the side. She soon became involved in the game’s production, and she and Guillaume then began an entirely new collaboration, which became Clair Obscur. The game’s story draws on Svedberg-Yen’s experiences and dreams, books she has read and TV series she has watched. She will talk more about this as she introduces this screening of The Daniels’ absurd drama Everything Everywhere All at Once. We meet Evelyn, a middle-aged laundromat owner who discovers that the fate of every world in an infinite multiverse rests on her weary shoulders. The screening is supported by Institut français.

Kåre & the Cavemen

Kåre & the Cavemen perform «Long Day’s Flight ‘Till Tomorrow»! To mark the release, the band was invited to perform the album in its entirety at the eclectic Lyse Netter festival in Moss on 12 June. After some hesitation, the five members, who had not played together since 2015, accepted the invitation. To do justice to the album’s complex material and adapt it for live performance, the band brought in two highly skilled and versatile additional musicians: Amund Stenøien on vibraphone and Bendik Brænne on horns. The audience response was overwhelming, and the new live lineup sounded so good and well rehearsed that Kåre & the Cavemen have decided to play a pre-Christmas concert at Parkteatret, performing «Long Day’s Flight ‘Till Tomorrow» and perhaps a few surprises as well. More than 30 years after breaking through on national television, guitarist Knut Schreiner, drummer Kåre, João Pedersen and the rest of the band are looking forward to giving their fans a new and unique concert experience. Don’t miss this chance to hear Kåre & the Cavemen as you’ve never heard them before! Listen https://tidal.com/artist/3617580/u ID is required at all our events. Vagabond

A moving portrait and one of the highlights of 1980s French cinema. At a time in the 1980s when almost all the attention was focused on stylish young directors such as Beneix, Besson and Carax, Agnès Varda appeared with a film that, despite its somewhat bleak atmosphere, had an almost magical radiance. It also marked the definitive breakthrough of the great acting talent Sandrine Bonnaire. A farmer finds a young woman, nearly frozen, in a ditch by the road. She is lifeless. Using techniques that are almost documentary in style, Varda tells the story of this young woman and how she came to be where she was found. The story follows her along the highway, while interviews with people who met her attempt to build a fuller picture of her. She sought solitude, and almost unconsciously affected everyone she met. Her outward appearance was rarely appealing, but her behaviour was rebellious. Even so, many people are left with a fond or sympathetic memory of her. Vagabond is a moving portrait of a woman, and the film’s achievement is that audiences feel they have met this woman themselves by the time they leave the cinema. Vagabond is not a “mockumentary”, but a story based on real events that combines techniques from both fiction and documentary. Varda herself has said that much of the film took shape along the way, as the crew followed the young woman’s trail and met people along the road. Perhaps Vagabond is one of the best road movies ever made, at least in a European sense. In American road movies, attributes such as cars and guns are conventions that illustrate the genre; in Vagabond, there is only the person and the highway. Life unfolds as you walk.

Joshua Idehen

British-Nigerian spoken word artist Joshua Idehen comes to Parkteatret on Friday 4 December 2026, following the release of his album «I Know You’re Hurting, Everyone Is Hurting, Everyone Is Trying, You Have Got To Try». At a time marked by what seems like an endless stream of bad news, Joshua Idehen does not pretend that everything is all right. Instead, he creates a musical and poetic space to sit with what is difficult while also finding hope, community and energy. On his new album, Idehen combines his distinctive spoken word style with electronic soundscapes that move between the intimate, euphoric and danceable. The album was made with his creative partner, musician and producer Ludvig Parment of Saturday Monday. The collaboration has resulted in a powerful and uplifting collection of songs that spans the full spectrum of emotions, from grief and vulnerability to euphoria and hope. After several years of developing his distinctive style, Idehen takes his lyrical world to new heights on the album. His words resonate with both seriousness and warmth, while Parment’s enveloping production ensures that the music invites listeners not only to reflect, but also to let loose on the dance floor. Listen https://tidal.com/artist/5919579/u Physical ID is required at all our events. We accept only physical identification (passport, ID card or driving licence). The concert is presented by Luger.

A Better Tomorrow

A chance to revisit John Woo’s influential Hong Kong film. Ho and Mark are two successful gangsters in Hong Kong’s triad underworld, specialising in counterfeiting. Ho’s family knows nothing of his criminal career, and his younger brother Kit is about to graduate from the police academy. Ho is working towards becoming a law-abiding citizen and is close to securing enough money and standing to leave the triads. But in the shadows, the ambitious Shing is plotting his rise through the ranks, and Ho stands in his way. After a series of brutal and tragic events, Ho ends up in prison, Mark is demoted within the organisation, and Shing establishes himself as a ruthless mafia boss without scruples or respect. When Ho is finally released, he decides to live a quiet life outside the triads. But Kit, now an inspector, is determined to put Shing behind bars. Ho is therefore forced back into the violent world he is trying to leave. It all unfolds into a bloody drama that puts loyalty, brotherly love, honour and life itself at stake. John Woo’s melodramatic gangster epic established him as one of the world’s foremost action directors. The film draws on a range of influences, including Jean-Pierre Melville and Sam Peckinpah, as well as the work of Douglas Sirk. Leslie Cheung was originally meant to be the star who would draw audiences into cinemas, but he was completely overshadowed by Chow Yun-Fat as Mark. A Better Tomorrow made Chow Yun-Fat an icon on a scale Hong Kong had scarcely seen since Bruce Lee. With a toothpick in the corner of his mouth and sunglasses on, he became a star comparable to Steve McQueen in Bullitt, Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry and Alain Delon in Le Samuraï. According to reports, Chow Yun-Fat received a thank-you letter after the sunglasses manufacturer saw a significant increase in sales of the model he wears as Mark. Ti Lung, who plays Ho, also received a major career boost. Originally a star of the Shaw Brothers’ kung fu films, he had seen acting offers dry up during the 1980s. After the film’s success, he re-established himself as a serious dramatic actor. Leslie Cheung became an active and acclaimed actor after the film, appearing in titles such as A Chinese Ghost Story (En kinesisk spøkelseshistorie her hjemme), Chen Kaige’s Palme d’Or winner Farvel min konkubine and Wong Kar Wai’s queer classic Happy Together. Cheung, who struggled with severe depression for much of his life, tragically took his own life in 2003. A Better Tomorrow is the film that would define Hong Kong action cinema through the 1980s and 1990s. It is a highly influential gangster film, and its DNA can be traced in everything from the John Wick films to Infernal Affairs and Martin Scorsese’s remake The Departed. A Better Tomorrow is one of the key foundations of what became known as “heroic bloodshed”, a distinctive blend of melodrama, loyalty, honour and explosive, stylised violence. The film has lost none of its creative energy since its premiere 40 years ago.

Fire eventyr med Reinette og Mirabelle

Delicate and understated, from Eric Rohmer. Fire eventyr… unfolds in summer, with the light, gently drifting summer mood that characterizes many of Rohmer’s films. Mirabelle, a girl from Paris, spends her holiday in the countryside, where she meets Reinette. They become good friends, and as the holiday draws to a close, Mirabelle invites Reinette to share her apartment in Paris. Reinette accepts, and the film goes on to follow their life in Paris, where Reinette, among other things, tries her hand at painting. There are many beautiful moments in this film—such as when the two girls get up at daybreak to experience “the blue hour,” as night turns to day. Conversation with Dag Johan Haugerud Before the screening on Tuesday 1 December, director Dag Johan Haugerud will talk about his relationship with Eric Rohmer. The conversation is held in collaboration with Fragment[et] - tidsskrift for kulturfilosofisk analyse. https://www.fragmentet.no/ Their exchanges, sharp as garlic and sweet as smiles, are as naive as they are knowing. FAKETHIAS (DJ) + Onleash + Sport7000 /BLÅ

FAKETHIAS (DJ) + Onleash + Sport7000 Fredag 4. desember | 23:00 | Id: 20 | 150,- techno / bass / experimental FAKETHIAS has evolved from one of the more abrasive names in experimental club music into a creator of emotionally charged songs built from big melodies, blown-out sonics, and industrial textures. Across the albums Core Echo and Afterimage, his work pairs immediate hooks with a sense of disorientation: somewhere between alternative pop, noise, and widescreen electronic music. FAKETHIAS co-produced Bassvictim’s album Forever, appeared on “Again” from A24’s The Drama alongside Katie Fash and Elusin, and previously opened Mugler’s viral 2021 fashion film with “Premium Defects.” Onleash, also known as Peak Sinner and formerly Drippin, has spent over a decade shaping the forward-looking edges of club music. His earlier work moved through rap, grime, and bass-heavy electronics before evolving into the harder, more physical sound he is now known for. Drawing from a wide range of influences, his music is defined by high-impact percussion, punishing low end, sharp melodic instincts, and an approach to rhythm that feels both controlled and volatile, making his tracks go-to weapons for DJs across the club landscape. Sport7000 is the moniker of Oslo native producer/dj/designer Andreas Mallaug. As one of the creators behind the award-nominated club concept Klubb Verdensstjerne, he has played a key role in shaping Oslo's club scene, orchestrating numerous unforgettable nights in the city for many years. Hayeminol

After a wild festival summer, with an ever-growing audience and bigger mosh pits, Hayeminol are heading out on the road. On 5 desember, they’re coming to Parkteatret — for both over- and under-18s! Hayeminol have spent the summer making chaos. Adresseavisen gave their Pstereo concert a score of 6. Audun Vinger in DN called them «the real headliner» at Øya. Dagsavisen gave the same concert a 5 and wrote that Hayeminol «capture the spirit of the times in a way most of the other artists at Øya can only envy». So what’s going on? Mosh pit meets Beach Boys. Punk meets pop. DEVO meets desperation. Hayeminol play as if their songs could fall apart at any moment. Fuzz, screams and restless energy collide with big melodies and multi-part harmonies. One moment, the floor is boiling. The next, it almost sounds beautiful. Then it hits again. On «Ingen vår i år», the band found their Norwegian-language universe: time, identity, nostalgia and the feeling that life is moving faster than you are. Live, that same unease becomes physical. The mosh pits have grown over the summer, while the band has attracted an ever-wider audience. They started Hayeminol as 13-year-olds. Now in their early 20s, with four albums behind them, they’ve spent the summer tearing festival stages apart. Now they’re heading out on the road. - Listen https://tidal.com/artist/16723271/u Parkteatret, Olaf Ryes plass 11, 0552 Oslo

Thomas Dybdahl

Thomas Dybdahl is regarded as one of Norway’s very best artists. With a series of beautiful, timeless and accomplished albums, he has long secured his place among the country’s most prominent artists and songwriters. On Saturday 5 December, Thomas Dybdahl comes to Sentrum Scene with his band! Dybdahl made his solo debut with That Great October Sound, for which he won a Spellemann Award. Since then, he has released further critically acclaimed albums, including Stray Dogs, One Day You’ll Dance For Me New York City, Science and What’s Left Is Forever, which earned a Grammy nomination. 2025 was a particularly strong year for Dybdahl, with extensive touring and a series of concerts awarded the top score of six out of six by reviewers across the country. On stage, he has cemented his position as one of Norway’s most compelling performers—intimate, soulful and technically brilliant—with an audience spanning generations. His most recent album release was the beautiful Teenage Astronauts. For this project, he worked with Grammy winner Larry Klein, legendary arranger Vince Mendoza, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and lyricist Edie Kuhnle Ottestad. The result was an ambitious and grand project that clearly shows Dybdahl remains curious, uncompromising and in constant artistic development. Alongside this, he is currently working on a follow-up to his 2020 album Fever. The first taste arrived in autumn 2025 with the single “Let Me Love You”—a song that has already become a live favourite, earning a central place in the concert set and pointing clearly towards the next chapter in Dybdahl’s career. The new EP Endless Sky is released on 23 October! Tickets: NOK 530 + booking fee. 18+ age limit. Valid ID required. No guardian arrangement. Valid ID means a physical national ID card, passport, physical driving licence or bank card with a photo. Digital ID (digital driving licence or BankID) and photos of ID are not accepted. Caliban Sessions 2026

Caliban Sessions is the big annual super-party where the community around Black Debbath, Duplex Records and Caliban Studio Storsjøen puts together a fantastic evening filled with the best music and entertainment. This year’s party takes place on Saturday 5 December at John Dee! This long-running tradition began back in 2002, and we can look back on many fantastic evenings. Artists confirmed so far: BLACK DEBBATH Black Debbath are in the studio working on album no. 11, but are taking a break to visit this year’s Caliban Sessions, as usual. Now in their twenty-seventh year and still with the original lineup (!!!!!), Black Debbath are better and more relevant than ever. BARE EGIL BAND The man. The myth. The legend! Worth the price of the whole ticket! See you there! HÅNDGEMENG Håndgemeng are a mighty hard rock band from the darkest corners of Oslo. With a scorching-fresh repertoire, they promise an evening of broad-legged heavy metal and a guaranteed good time. Riff after riff after riff, Håndgemeng will break through every genre boundary and take you from the deepest hell to the farthest reaches of the cosmos. This is a session you won’t soon forget! MALIN PETTERSEN In recent years, Malin Pettersen has gone from establishing herself on the Norwegian music scene to receiving international recognition from media outlets such as Billboard, Forbes and Rolling Stone. Anyone who has heard Malin Pettersen before knows that it’s her voice that draws you in—and her songwriting that keeps you there. She released the critically acclaimed album Wildflower in 2025, for which she won a Spellemann Award. JORDSJUK Necro music for necro times! Jordsjuk have made a big impression on the Norwegian metal scene in a short time. Naglet til livet, released in autumn 2025, has already been called one of the decade’s best debut albums in metal, and the record was even awarded a Spellemann Award in the “Hardrock & Metal” category. Made up of musicians with long experience in the Norwegian underground, Jordsjuk serve up a defiant blend of black metal, thrash, death metal, punk and rock. Riff-driven, straight to the point and, above all, infectiously catchy, with lyrics that paint brutal pictures of doom, desperation and destruction—all performed in their native language. The band have already played a double-digit number of shows, and it’s on stage that their ferocity really gets free rein. For those who have seen them before, expectations are high. For everyone else: get ready to be steamrolled! HEIGH CHIEF Over the past few years, Heigh Chief have become synonymous with well-played, catchy and solid rock and Americana. With a scorching-fresh album added to their catalogue, the band bring new energy to an already carefully crafted sound, powerful songs and incredible dynamics. A Heigh Chief concert is about as good as it gets: no fuss about mosh pits or singalongs, just great songs delivered honestly by a group of highly capable musicians. JAQUELINE This year’s reunion is: Jaqueline! A hard rock/stoner power trio that first emerged in Elverum in 1998. They released their debut album, Idiots, in 2005. Reaping Machines followed in 2006, and Cape Horn in 2009. The band received excellent reviews in Akersgata back when they were still writing them. For many years, Jaqueline toured Norway and Germany from end to end. The trio consists of Bjarne Ryen Berg (drums), Marius Drogsås Hagen (vocals, bass, baritone) and Morten Wærhaug (vocals, guitar). Marius and Bjarne have previously won a Spellemann Award with the pop group Team Me. Jaqueline are currently working on a new album! We’re aiming for a good mix of old and new at this party! SUNNY BLEACH SUNNY BLEACH is a child born through IVF and moulded from Porsgrunn’s finest porcelain. The sunset-punk quintet is here to create glimmers of light and humid warmth in an otherwise cold, industrial city. You know you have to be here when it goes down. It’s the talk of the town. NÖ BULL Nö Bull are a hard-hitting rock band from central Telemark, delivering straight-up rock’n’roll with clear traces of the Australian pub-rock tradition. In winter 2023/2024, they headed to Caliban Studios to record their debut album, Getting Out. The album was released in autumn 2024 and received excellent feedback. In early 2026, the band returned to the same studio to start recording its follow-up. But Nö Bull really come into their own on stage. With high energy, a love of playing and a strong sense of drive, their concerts are intense from the very first note, pulling both band and audience into the same rhythm. Not to be missed! SHOWDOWN Jørgen Moe Eikås is the legendary sound engineer who has delivered great sound at Caliban Sessions for years! He also handles sound year-round for Black Debbath, Thulsa Doom and Bare Egil Band, to name a few. This time, he’s making a comeback on stage with his old band! Showdown are a hardcore band from Kongsvinger, formed in 2003. The following year, the band released their debut album, New Day Rising, and established themselves as an energetic and uncompromising presence on the Norwegian hardcore scene. In the years that followed, Showdown toured extensively around Norway, and their music also took them beyond the country’s borders. They toured Europe and the UK several times, introducing Kongsvinger hardcore to international audiences. After several active years, the band called it quits in 2008. Now, after many years away, Showdown are back together. With the same lineup and renewed enthusiasm for playing, the aim is to breathe life into the songs again—and find out how Kongsvinger hardcore works this time around. Tickets: NOK 350 + booking fee. 18+ age limit. Valid ID required. No guardian arrangement is available. Valid ID means a physical national ID card, passport, physical driver’s licence or bank card with a photo. Digital ID (digital driver’s licence or BankID) or a photo of an ID document is not accepted. The event has standing-room only. Doors open at 19.00. The event starts approximately 1 hour after doors open. Please arrive well before the event starts, as queues may form. John Dee, Mariboes gate 5A, 0183 Oslo

Lame Ducks - 30år // Vaterland

Lame Ducks - 30 years! Support: TBA Saturday 5 December 20:00 // 275.- + fees // 20+ ---------------------------- Lame Ducks are celebrating 30 years! Many consider Lame Ducks to be Norway’s first ska-punk band. Since forming in 1996, they have drawn clear inspiration from bands such as Mad Caddies, Link 80, Common Rider, Goldfinger and Reel Big Fish. On 5 December, the band celebrates three decades of ska-punk at Vaterland in Oslo. The band made waves on the Norwegian punk scene in the late 1990s and early 2000s. After a successful performance at By:Larm in 2001, they signed a record deal with the company that would become the legendary Fucking North Pole Records. Over the next four years, they released three albums to excellent reviews and toured much of Europe several times. After a UK tour connected with the “Duck Season” album, the band went into an “indefinite hiatus” that lasted from 2005 to 2009. During that period, some members continued under the name The Troikas. Since their comeback in 2009, Lame Ducks have played occasional, carefully selected festival and club shows, to the great enthusiasm of old fans and new followers alike. Now, 30 years are being squeezed into one night at Vaterland. Expect some old hits, newer classics, perhaps a few rarities, ska, punk, horns and a refreshing band that still plays faster than its age would suggest. ------------------------ Ticketmaster.no Vaterlandoslo.no

Hayeminol

After a wild festival summer, with an ever-growing audience and bigger mosh pits, Hayeminol are hitting the road. On 5 December, they’re coming to Parkteatret – for both under-18s and over-18s! Hayeminol have spent the summer creating chaos. Adresseavisen gave their Pstereo concert a six out of six. Audun Vinger of DN called them “the real headliner” at Øya. Dagsavisen gave the same concert five out of six and wrote that Hayeminol “capture the spirit of the times in a way most other artists at Øya can only envy from afar”. Then it all kicks off again. With “Ingen vår i år”, the band found their Norwegian-language universe: time, identity, nostalgia and the feeling that life is moving faster than you are. Live, that same unease becomes physical. The mosh pits have grown throughout the summer, as the band has drawn an ever-wider audience. They started Hayeminol when they were 13. Now in their early 20s, with four albums behind them, they’ve spent the summer tearing festival stages apart. Now they’re hitting the road. - Listen (https://tidal.com/artist/16723271/u) Valid ID is required at all our events. We only accept physical ID (passport, ID card or driver’s licence). Søm og drøm

Are you a dreamer who likes seams? So are we. Welcome to the sewing club at Deichman Grünerløkka, hosted by Framtiden i våre hender’s local Oslo branch. Welcome to the sewing club, which takes place in Salen at Deichman Grünerløkka! Anyone can bring a project they would like to work on. We’re a group of hobby sewers who can help if you get stuck. You don’t need to bring your own machine! There are 6 good sewing machines, as well as an overlocker. We have an iron and ironing board, scissors, some thread (but bring your own if it needs to match your fabric exactly), and various accessories such as zips and buttons. Otherwise, bring whatever fabric and specific accessories you need for your project. There is some leftover fabric that can be used for small projects. Our volunteers will do their best to help with any questions you may have. We also make a pot of food when we have the capacity. If so, we’ll post about it in the Facebook event. Children are welcome, but parents must supervise them, as there are lots of needles, sharp scissors, etc. that we cannot take responsibility for. This is not a sewing course, so the volunteers don’t have the capacity to guide you step by step, but they’ll help as much as they can along the way. Hope to see you! P.S. We need volunteers to help out during the event. Could that be you? Email [email protected] to join as a volunteer. Warm wishes from the board of Framtiden i våre hender’s local Oslo branch.

Reisen til julestjernen

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a great film on the big screen! Ola Solum’s Christmas classic Reisen til julestjernen is a cherished tradition at Barnas cinematek. In this beloved adventure film, we meet Princess Gulltopp, who disappears from the castle on Christmas Eve. She has gone into the forest to find the Christmas star, after being tricked by her wicked and greedy uncle, the count. When the king and queen learn that the princess has vanished, they are overcome with grief. The distraught queen rushes into the forest to look for her. The king curses the Christmas star, blaming it for the tragic events. But his curse makes the star go dark. And when the star disappears, so does the queen. Many years later, a group of travelling performers arrives at the king’s castle. Sonja, a girl in the troupe, feels sorry for the king and wants to help him find the Christmas star. A Christmas story with traditions Reisen til julestjernen has become a much-loved Christmas classic for audiences of all ages. The film is based on Sverre Brandt’s play of the same name from 1924, and was the first Norwegian fairy-tale film made as a feature. It was also Ola Solum’s directorial debut. Reisen til julestjernen premiered at Klingenberg kino on 3. desember 1976. Since the mid-1990s, it has been shown on NRK every Christmas Eve. The film’s leading roles include Ingrid Larsen (Princess Gulltopp as a child), Hanne Krogh (Sonja), Knut Risan (the king) and Bente Børsum (the queen).

Paraplyene i Cherbourg

Paraplyene i Cherbourg has the perfect blend of playfulness, beauty and passion that every musical aspires to achieve. Catherine Deneuve had her breakthrough in the role of 17-year-old Geneviève in this classic. Geneviève works in her mother’s umbrella shop in the French port city of Cherbourg and is passionately in love with Guy, who works at a garage. They swear eternal love to each other and want to marry, but the Algerian War is looming and Guy has to join the military. In the bittersweet hour of their farewell, Geneviève becomes pregnant. Paraplyene i Cherbourg is a sung-through musical, meaning that all the dialogue is sung rather than alternating between “regular scenes” and scenes with singing and dancing. This approach suits the film well. The story is so simple that it can sound like a cliché, and when the words become too banal, song and dance lift the film from cliché to magic. The music was written by renowned jazz pianist Michel Legrand, who won three Oscars, composed music for more than 200 films, and is especially known for his jazz period in the 1950s, when he played with musicians such as Miles Davis, Bill Evans and John Coltrane. His melodic blend of jazz and ballads in Paraplyene i Cherbourg is nothing short of genius, and the film has one of the most unforgettable theme tunes of all time. The film’s use of colour is also magical. Paraplyene i Cherbourg was intended to be the first French musical in colour, so the job had to be done properly. Parts of the city were repainted before filming, and the actors’ costume colours were carefully chosen to create the right mood. The colours are as vivid as if drawn with felt-tip pens, yet so nuanced that they never seem garish. Jacques Demy was an atypical director of the French New Wave. While Godard, Truffaut and other leading New Wave directors were often concerned with portraying the confusion of the mind, the powerlessness of emotions and the defeat of love, Demy’s Paraplyene i Cherbourg is a bittersweet tribute to life and love. The film won three awards at the Cannes Film Festival, including the Palme d’Or, and received five Oscar nominations. Cinemateket i Oslo, Dronningens gate 16, 0152 Oslo 2026-12-06 16:00

I år gjør me det heilt enkelt

For 20 years, Frank «Tønes» Tønnesen and Ingvar Hovland have put on a Christmas show. Together, they have explored the real challenges of celebrating Christmas: where to spend Christmas Eve, who gives a present to whom, what actually makes an acceptable Christmas tree, and whether it is really okay to decorate it in November. The answer to the last question is, of course, a resounding chorus of angels saying no. The rest is knowledge Tønes and Hovland have gathered over the years and now brought together in a new concert show, with help from Sigfrida and Johanne, among others. I år gjør me det heilt enkelt is a collection of Christmas songs for anyone who may not think Christmas should be about songs and concerts at all. It’s about handing over presents, cold floors, and whether the celebrations will be at Aunt Ingeborg’s or Aunt Gerd’s. And there’s one song about how even the brightest star offers hope. Ingvar Hovland is Egersund’s national poet and has written song lyrics for a number of Norwegian artists and bands. Frank Tønnesen has a unique ability to observe and portray everyday life, blending subtle humour with wry seriousness. Quite a lot of people call him Tønes. Tickets: kr. 549,- + bill.avg. 18+ age limit. Valid physical ID is required. No guardian scheme. Accepted ID: physical national ID card, passport, physical driving licence or bank card with a photo. Digital ID (digital driving licence or Bank-ID) and photos of ID are not valid. A limited number of unnumbered seats and standing places are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pushwagner

An unconventional and vivid portrait of an unusual artist. Hariton Pushwagner was one of Norway’s most distinctive and beloved contemporary artists, known for his unmistakable visual universe of people, apartment blocks, cars and machines. Behind the bold colours and repeating patterns lies a darker social critique of modern life, consumer society and the individual’s place in the crowd. The documentary Pushwagner gets up close to both the artist Pushwagner and the person Terje Brofos. It looks back on a dramatic life, from periods of homelessness and drug addiction to a major artistic breakthrough late in life, while also portraying his fight to regain the rights to his own art. This is no traditional artist documentary, with experts explaining the art. In a raw, cinéma vérité-inspired style, the camera gets close to Pushwagner’s everyday life, while animations from his own visual universe bring the art into the language of the film itself. The result is a rare encounter with the person behind the self-styled Pushwagner, and with the life, experiences and contradictions that shaped both the man and his art. Kunst på film Kunst på film is presented and curated in collaboration with The Art Trotter – a digital platform for sharing art that makes learning about art easy and engaging, with insight, experiences and a vibrant community. TRANSponert – En musikalkonsert på skeiva

Welcome to TRANSponert and our pilot concert! We’ve brought together a group of talented trans and gender-diverse musical theatre performers who, with a live band, will treat you to a concert packed with bold, moving, catchy and fun songs from across the musical theatre canon. Expect solos, duets, trios and ensemble numbers, all with a unique queer twist. We promise a wonderful evening with a great atmosphere and even better music! TRANSponert is a concert concept created and performed by Mio Eggen and Gabriel Wilson Ness. It grew out of a desire to make trans and gender-diverse performers in Norway’s musical theatre industry more visible, and to challenge expectations about who can play which roles. Even in such an open and accepting environment, it can be challenging to find your place when you break with norms around your voice, gender expression or both—and these norms affect more than just trans people. We hope TRANSponert can help foster greater openness and gender diversity on Norwegian musical theatre stages, while also casting a fresh, queer light on familiar musical theatre repertoire. Doors open: 19:00 Concert starts: 19:30 Duration: 90 minutes (including a 15-minute interval) Age limit: 20+ Performers: SINGERS: Mio Eggen, Gabriel Wilson Ness, Sofie Lauritzen, Olivia Håheim and Elliot Hegland. BAND: Mikael Morvik Kyrkjebø, Allan Tolnæs, Marianne Bragstad Eid and Gilles Monteiro Teixeira. About ticket prices: Because it matters to us that art is accessible regardless of income, we use a somewhat unconventional ticket system with 6 different price levels between 150kr and 500kr. The prices aren’t based on whether you’re a student, a senior or buying an early-bird ticket; they simply reflect how much you’re able to contribute. We don’t want anyone to feel that their wallet is too small to experience our concert. If you really believe in our concept and would like and are able to support queer performing arts—or simply have a little extra to spare—we’d greatly appreciate it if you chose one of the higher price levels. All ticket income goes back into the concept and helps us fund future concerts. You can also buy a ticket at the door, where you can choose between two price levels: ORANSJE (200kr) and GRØNN (300kr).

Small Roads

The roads less traveled – seen through James Benning’s camera lens. James Benning is known for films in which nothing happens, quite literally. Films such as 13 Lakes, L Cohen, Nightfall and Allensworth consist of a series of sequences with minimal movement in front of the camera. In a couple of them, you can just about make out people in the distance; otherwise, they consist of static shots in which the wind rustling through the trees and clouds drifting across the sky create the dramatic tension. (And the fact that dramatic tension does arise is what makes Benning’s films so remarkable and unique.) In this light, Small Roads is almost an action film by Benning’s standards, with cars and trains thundering past the camera again and again. But not quite. Filmed over a period of two years, Small Roads takes us to 47 remote roads across the United States. With a static camera, Benning films the roads and landscapes, creating a distinctive topographical portrait of the United States across the changing seasons. The film prompts us to reflect on our role as viewers and the expectations we bring to a film. It has no narrative progression; instead, it is a series of moving landscape paintings, with a surprisingly rich range of natural sounds on the soundtrack. Drama emerges in the most unexpected ways, in the form of a bus that never arrives and lightning strikes on the horizon. International Film Festival Rotterdam From a cactus-edged highway across a desert, through deep woods and along pleasant byways that could be in deepest England, through badlands, alongside spoiled industrial sites, past the surprising magnificence of telegraph poles, and, in one case, a marvellous juxtaposition of modern bright yellow road signs with a horizon of impossibly romantic mountains that could have been painted by one of the early American landscape artists.
