Oslo Zine Fest og Rom Ung: Zine workshop!
Make your own zine using things from your life and personal archive. Along the way, we’ll talk about what these things mean to you and to others, and how zines have long offered a way to self-publish when no one else made room for your stories.
When we think of archives, we often picture museums, libraries and public archives. But many stories have never found a place there. Instead, they live in drawers, photo albums, on phones or in family stories shared around the dinner table. In this workshop, we’ll look at these things as an archive and use them to tell your story on your own terms.
Bring different things that matter to you or your family. They could be photos, letters, recipes, jewellery, clothes, tickets, drawings or something else entirely. They can be valuable, but the most important thing is that they have a story and mean something to someone. You’re also welcome to bring things you can cut up, such as old magazines, receipts or packaging. If you don’t want to cut up an original, we can make a copy for you to work with.
We’ll cut, glue, write and photocopy, turning your things and memories into a small zine for you to take home. No experience is needed, and your originals will be returned to you in good condition.
The workshop is led by Rian Adam Sadiq, who works with creative archiving, diasporic storytelling and self-publishing.
The workshop is a collaboration between Oslo Zine Fest, ROM Ung and Deichman Grünerløkka.
