Angst
Angst — a Norwegian film about anxiety
A nerve-racking thriller filmed on location in Oslo.
Here we meet a Bull Tuhus who has consciously begun to take into account that the film should also connect with its audience, and who understands that social criticism and psychological depth can go hand in hand with suspense that keeps you on edge.
Psychotherapist Høeg and his wife go away for a weekend, leaving their five-year-old daughter with their regular babysitter, Tove. Soon, the first threatening phone calls begin, and a nightmarish weekend is underway.
The film’s title refers to the anxiety of modern society, which spreads to and is amplified in sensitive individuals. Svein Sharffenberg was cast as the unstable and threatening Marlon, largely because he was able to shift quickly between different moods. The psychologist is played by lawyer Alf Nordhus, who had defended a number of men like Marlon and therefore had some insight into their psychology. An example of creative, inspired casting. Eva Sevaldson also gives a brilliant performance as the terrorised babysitter.
