Resilience
Film screening and conversation with the director
About people and nature in a time of change.
Resilience moves between essay film and environmental thriller, following two people who live close to nature in a time of profound change.
Climate change is accelerating, forests are disappearing, springs are drying up and species are dying out. Klára and her dogs hunt down people who poison endangered birds of prey, while Pavel scythes flower meadows and restores wetlands damaged by drought and deforestation. Both see nature as part of themselves and are convinced it is worth fighting for, even when the effort may seem futile.
Accompanied by the sounds of wind, birdsong and music that emerges from the landscape itself, the film portrays nature’s slow changes. Inspired by cultural ecologist David Abrams’ ideas, Resilience asks whether it is still possible to restore the balance between people and nature—a balance that is being disrupted faster than we can understand.
Director Tomás Elsik will attend the screening. He will take part in a conversation with Pernille Hansen from Naturvernforbundet.
“Resilience recreates the sensual experience of being in nature and asks questions to which we ought to find the answers sooner rather than later, and it does it intelligently and tenderly touching on the philosophy of nature and being in the highly modernized reality of the XXI century.”
