Bawke (Kurdish for “dad”) tells the story of a father and son on an impossible escape through Europe. The father is not granted legal residence in their final destination, Norway, but dreams of a different future for his young son.

Hisham Zaman made his breakthrough at the Kortfilmfestivalen in Grimstad in 2005, when Bawke won five awards, including Gullstolen and the European Prix UIP. The film also received an Amanda and the Canal+ award at Nordisk Panorama, and was nominated for the European Film Awards 2005 for Best Short Film.

Zaman directed the short film Vinterland (2007), followed by the feature films Før snøen faller (2013) and Brev til kongen (2014), all of which received positive reviews. When Zaman was selected to take part in the Norwegian Film Institute’s Nye veier project, which supports young, talented directors, it resulted in the short film The Boy in the Picture and the short feature film Hedda.
