Det gode ekteskap
Eric Rohmer film screening
A small but great Eric Rohmer film about a young woman who one day decides she wants to get married. The only thing she lacks is someone to marry.
The second film in the “Comedies and Proverbs” series, this entertaining film has an original premise: one day, completely out of the blue, student Sabine decides to get married. All she needs is a groom. She breaks up with her boyfriend, quits her job and tries to seduce the busy lawyer Edmond. He is kind to Sabine, but has no interest in marrying her. Nor is he interested in having a romantic relationship with her. Det gode ekteskap is simply one of Rohmer’s most pleasurable and inspired films.
“Everything within it is well-defined and magically, unexpectedly, illuminating.”
Vincent Canby, The New York Times
“Only Rohmer could handle such single-minded self-deception and the ultimate realisation of humiliation with such witty tact.”
David Parkinson, Empire
