SUNRISE ON THE REAPING is the latest prequel in the Hunger Games saga, set 24 years before the events of Katniss Everdeen’s original trilogy, placing it roughly four decades after the most recent story, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The story follows the fateful year when Haymitch Abernathy, the future mentor of Katniss and Peeta, is selected to compete in the second Quarter Quell, an event that drastically changes the rules of the Games. Instead of the usual two tributes per district, each district must send four, bringing the total to 48 participants in the arena—the highest number in Panem’s history, twice as many potential victims and an even slimmer chance of survival.
