SUNRISE ON THE REAPING is the latest prequel in the Hunger Games saga. It takes place 24 years before the events of Katniss Everdeen’s original trilogy, around four decades after the most recent story, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The story focuses on the fateful year when Haymitch Abernathy, the future mentor to Katniss and Peeta, is chosen to take part in the second Quarter Quell, an event that dramatically changes the rules of the Games. Instead of the usual two tributes from each district, each district must send four, resulting in 48 participants in the arena—the largest number in Panem’s history, twice as many victims, and an even lower chance of survival.
