Málagagaten
Calle Málaga (Málaga Street)
MÁLAGAGATEN (Calle Málaga) is a heartwarming film starring Carmen Maura, known for her work in Pedro Almodóvar’s films.
80-year-old Maria Angeles lives in the Spanish quarter of Tangier, Morocco. When her daughter Clara finally comes for a long-awaited visit, it is to pressure her mother into selling her apartment so Clara can get out of financial trouble following a divorce. But Maria, who was born in Tangier, is deeply rooted in the local community and much loved by her neighbours. She has no intention of moving... Resourceful as she is, Maria rolls up her sleeves and uses every trick in the book to get what she wants.
MÁLAGAGATEN is a warm, moving and inspiring drama with plenty of humour. Legendary actor Carmen Maura (born in 1945) is on excellent form as Maria Angeles, showing that joy, determination and love need not come to an end just because you are over 80.
The film has won numerous awards, including the audience award at both the Venice Film Festival and Tromsø International Film Festival.
