Málagagaten
Málagagaten – a warm-hearted drama set in Tangier
MÁLAGAGATEN (Calle Málaga) is a heartwarming film starring Carmen Maura (known for her work in Pedro Almodovar’s films).
80-year-old Maria Angeles lives in the Spanish quarter of Tangier, Morocco. When Maria’s daughter Clara finally comes for a long-awaited visit, it is to pressure her mother into selling her apartment so Clara can get out of financial difficulties following a divorce. But Maria, who was born in Tangier, is deeply rooted in the local community and highly valued by her neighbours, and has no intention of moving... Resourceful as she is, she rolls up her sleeves and uses every trick in the book to achieve her goal.
MÁLAGAGATEN is a warm, moving and inspiring drama with plenty of humour. Legendary actor Carmen Maura (born in 1945) is on top form as Maria Angeles, showing that joy in life, determination and love by no means have to end when you pass the age of 80.
The film has won numerous awards, including the audience award at both the Venice Film Festival and Tromsø International Film Festival.
