GIANT – The Play
GIANT – The Play (filmed stage production)
GIANT, the award-winning five-star stage play starring John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, 3rd Rock from the sun and The Crown) as Roald Dahl, is coming to cinemas.
The play has won 3 Olivier Awards, including Best Play. John Lithgow also received a Tony Award for his role. The production was filmed live in London’s West End before its sold-out Broadway run. The cast also includes Aya Cash (The Boys, The Franchise, You’re the Worst), Elliot Levey (Cold War, Patriots, Good) and Rachael Stirling (The Divine Mrs S).
A world-famous children’s author is under pressure. A fierce battle for power in the wake of a scandal. And one last chance to make things right... It is the summer of 1983, The Witches is soon to be published, and Roald Dahl is making the final changes. But protests over his recent, openly antisemitic article do not stop. Over the course of an afternoon at home, and following an unexpected, fierce confrontation, Dahl must choose: should he apologize publicly, or risk losing his name and reputation?
Inspired by true events, GIANT explores with dark humour the difference between considered opinions and dangerous words. The play paints a complex picture of a brilliant but controversial personality.
