GIANT – The Play
GIANT – The Play — a filmed stage production
GIANT, the award-winning five-star play starring John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, 3rd Rock from the sun and The Crown) as Roald Dahl, is coming to the cinema.
The play has won three Olivier Awards, including Best Play. John Lithgow also received a Tony Award for his role. The production was filmed live in London’s West End before its sold-out Broadway run. The cast also includes Aya Cash (The Boys, The Franchise, You’re the Worst), Elliot Levey (Cold War, Patriots, Good) and Rachael Stirling (The Divine Mrs S).
A world-famous children’s author is under pressure. A bitter power struggle follows a scandal. And there’s one last chance to make things right... It is the summer of 1983, Heksene is about to be published, and Roald Dahl is making his final revisions. But the protests over his recent, openly antisemitic article continue. Over the course of an afternoon at home, and after an unexpected and fierce confrontation, Dahl must choose: should he apologise publicly, or risk losing his name and reputation?
Inspired by real events, GIANT explores, with dark humour, the difference between considered opinions and dangerous words. The play paints a complex portrait of a brilliant but controversial figure.
