Zodiac (2007)
Film screening
About the film: In late summer 1969, in the wake of an unsolved murder in the city, The San Francisco Chronicle receives several coded letters from someone calling himself Zodiac, who threatens to kill twelve people unless his letters are published. Newspaper cartoonist Robert Graysmith is initially ridiculed by his colleagues for his theories about the letters. But as more murders are committed and Graysmith deciphers Zodiac’s messages, he becomes increasingly caught up in the media and police hunt for the serial killer—and perhaps in the killer’s hunt for them, too. David Fincher emerged as one of the most influential directors of the 1990s. With films such as "Alien 3", "Se7en", "The Game" and "Fight Club", he developed a distinctive film language, with a fine feel for camera movement and the legacy of film noir. When he turned to the still-unsolved Zodiac case in 2007, he made a film that is as much about the investigations themselves and the dynamics between the characters as it is about trying to solve the case. The result is an intense, detailed game of cat and mouse, regarded by many as Fincher’s great masterpiece. Join us in a bleak San Francisco at the end of the 1960s, where danger lurks around every corner and death threatens to come calling at any moment. As usual, 10 copies of a specially made poster for the film will be printed, available for purchase before and after the screening. Asbjørn Slettemark & Johan Harstad will introduce the film.
