Xeno & Oaklander is the electronic music and synth-pop duo of Norwegian-French artist Liz Wendelbo and American Sean McBride. Based in Brooklyn, New York, the duo has been deeply involved in the analogue synth scene since their debut album, "Vigils", in 2004. Through extensive touring and prolific artistic output, Xeno & Oaklander have taken a central place in the revival of synthwave in America and around the world. Their discography includes nine albums, a slew of singles and several film soundtracks. The individual members are also highly productive with their own projects, including McBride’s solo project Martial Canterel. As a duo, they are known for their ideological commitment to the physical production of sound, dedicating themselves to the distinctive qualities of their instruments and steering clear of laptops and digital post-production. Their framework is minimalist electronic music and synth-pop; more specifically, the band performs in its own subgenre, where minimalist synth and coldwave meet a retrofuturistic aesthetic, dressed in poetic and romantic songwriting. On stage, this approach means no backing tracks or other such frills—everything you hear is created in the moment! This makes for a genuine, dynamic and human experience in an engaging and spectacular electronic form.
