Russia is a neighbour, a relative, a homeland and a threat. Now the people who live in this borderland tell their stories. Welcome to the book launch of «Grenselandet. Historier om et hjørne mot Russland»!
This year marks 200 years since the border between Norway and Russia was drawn by envoys from the Russian Empire and the Swedish-Norwegian monarchy, across a landscape where people had lived and travelled for centuries.
Journalist Heidi Marie Lindekleiv and photographer Marcel Leliënhof have been travelling around Varangerfjorden since the summer of 2024. They have listened to the people who live there and photographed faces, nature, places of worship, rivers and grazing lands. Now, the stories from Norway’s corner bordering Russia come together in a documentary portrait.
We invite you to the launch on 11. november 2026 at Kulturhuset in Oslo. The programme starts at 19.00.
There will be a panel discussion about relations with Russia, past and present! There will be music from Ruija, performed by Trygve Beddari and Anne Margaret Nilsen! Books will be on sale!
