Tukki, From the Roots to the Bayou
Tukki, From the Roots to the Bayou
Senegalese jazz musician Alune Wade travels through West Africa and on to New Orleans to explore the connection between jazz and African music and culture.
The film does more than trace the legacy of African musical and cultural traditions across the global diaspora. It brings together voices from both sides of the Atlantic and opens up new dialogues about jazz, spirituality and food traditions. Through interviews with academics, musicians and cultural workers, it uncovers the roots of jazz and its deep, often overlooked connection to African music and culture.
Director Alune Wade will attend the screening on Friday 13 NOV. He will perform an excerpt from his concert at Cosmopolite on Saturday 14 NOV. Buy a ticket to the film and get a discount on the concert ticket.
