The Sisters of Mercy
The Sisters of Mercy — live concert in Oslo
- Sold out
The Sisters of Mercy come to Rockefeller on 15. november! Few made industrial rock as catchy as Andrew Eldritch and his band did in the 80s. For over four decades, The Sisters of Mercy have been an iconic force in underground music, and now they are finally returning to Oslo.
Formed in Leeds in 1980, The Sisters of Mercy took their name from a Leonard Cohen song, but drew inspiration from greats such as David Bowie, Slade and The Velvet Underground. In terms of sound, however, The Stooges, Motörhead and Suicide were closer influences — helping the band develop a distinctive style compared with other acts of the post-punk era.
Their breakthrough came with Floodland (1987), an album packed with epic songs such as «Dominion», «Lucretia My Reflection» and, not least, the over-ten-minute masterpiece «This Corrosion». Vision Thing (1990) offered a harder, more metal-leaning sound while retaining the band’s signature drum-machine drive.
The cynical record industry of the 90s put Andrew Eldritch off, and the focus shifted from the studio to the stage. Although The Sisters of Mercy have not released an album since 1990, both their popularity and influence have continued to grow.
