The Isle

An intense romantic thriller from South Korean master director Kim Ki-duk.

Hee-jin is a beautiful, extremely quiet, possibly mute loner who lives by a lake in the Korean wilderness. She makes a living renting out floating platforms with small cabins to fishermen and making sure they have food, bait and prostitutes – sometimes offering herself as well.

Hyun-shik rents one of the platforms. He is on the run from the law, desperate and almost as quiet as Hee-jin. When she stops him from taking his own life, a romance begins that is as passionate as it is painful and destructive.
