The Chats

The Australian punk rock band The Chats are coming back to Oslo! They have previously played fantastic, sold-out shows at both Rockefeller and John Dee. On 12. september 2027, the band comes to Sentrum Scene! Their third studio album, «Half Cut», is released on 5. mars.

The Chats broke through with the song «Smoko» and its accompanying music video, which went viral in 2017 and earned the band prominent fans including Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and Iggy Pop. The song featured on the EP Get This In Ya!!, which followed their self-titled debut EP from the previous year. Their debut album, High Risk Behaviour, came out in 2020 and was praised by NME, Kerrang! and The Guardian, among others.

The trio have created their own genre, «shed rock», a kind of mix of pub rock, punk, surf and garage rock. They cite Sex Pistols and Black Flag as major influences, along with Australian cult heroes such as Cosmic Psychos, Dune Rats and Eddy Current Suppression Ring.

The much-anticipated second album, Get Fucked, was released in 2022 and received 4/5 from The Skinny and DIY, and 5/6 from NME and Klassekampen:

«This is punk as it sounded in England in 1977/78, only not quite – because this is faster and has a thicker sound. Welcome to Australia today, where a solid garage punk band seems to emerge from every little pub. And The Chats are clearly among the best pub punk bands on this scruffy scene – if you can call it a scene.»
