Pearl & The Oysters
Pearl & The Oysters – Psychedelic pop concert
Psychedelic pop, lo-fi electronica and sunlit melodies with darker undertones. Pearl & The Oysters bring a little taste of summer to Parkteatret in November with their dreamy and distinctive musical universe.
Pearl & The Oysters, made up of Juliette Pearl Davis (Juju) and Joachim Polack (Jojo), formed in Paris ten years ago. Together, they make music that reflects their current home base of Los Angeles: sunny on the surface, but more complex and darker underneath. Their bubbly, playful lounge pop—which now also draws inspiration from 70s piano rock, Brazilian rhythms and city pop—explores how to live with anxiety, uncertainty and inner restlessness.
The duo’s new album «Monkey Mind» takes its title from the Buddhist term for a restless, wandering consciousness: thoughts that spin and rarely find peace. Produced by Jonathan Rado (Weyes Blood, The Lemon Twigs, Father John Misty), the album follows this cycle over the course of a day—from a state of calm before thoughts awaken and gather pace, until they eventually settle again.
Rather than disappearing into long, painstaking work processes, Juju and Jojo chose a more intuitive and direct approach, writing their sixth album in just a few weeks.
«We felt a need to tap into a certain urgency and honesty, as a result of our growing malaise with a cultural climate plagued by digital alienation and generative AI slop,» says the duo.
After several years of creating intricate sound worlds, Juju and Jojo wanted to open up the process this time and capture something less controlled. With shared musical obsessions including Todd Rundgren, The Beach Boys, Steely Dan and early electronic soundscapes, they knew Jonathan Rado would be the perfect collaborator.
«Monkey Mind» is Pearl & The Oysters’ first album rooted entirely in LA. While earlier releases were shaped by the humid atmosphere of Gainesville, Florida, and the albums «Coast 2 Coast» and «Planet Pearl» portrayed the duo as nomads in search of a home, their latest album is firmly planted in Los Angeles. It is full of poolside bops, distant sirens, parrot cries from the neighbourhood, psychedelic ice cream trucks and helicopters circling over the city.
