On 12 November, the Spellemann-nominated band Orbits will release new music, along with the music video for “Waiting for the Sun”. They’re bringing the new material to Himmelblå. There may be no more fitting month to release a song called Waiting for the Sun than November.

Orbits consists of vocalist Natalie Sandtorv, composer and producer Erlend Mokkelbost, and multi-instrumentalist Lars Horntveth. Since forming, the band has created a distinctive musical universe where jazz, electronics, alternative pop, improvisation and psychedelic elements meet—often with concerts that feel more like collective rituals than traditional performances.

The past few years have been quite something for Orbits. They received the NOPA Music Prize, were nominated for a Spellemann Award for their debut album Blood Red Sky, and were nominated for Breakthrough of the Year at Musikkforleggerprisen. They also took part in a production for NRK Scenen, which was nominated for Gullruten.

When Orbits released the EP Bad Mantras at Blå in 2024, journalists flew in from London to experience the release concert. British CLASH Magazine has since described the band as a project that challenges and redefines genre boundaries: “Orbits are able to weave sound, emotion and art together in a magnetic way.”

And now comes Waiting for the Sun—as both a new single and a music video. A November song for everyone who feels it’s been a little too long since the sun last came out.
