Min pappa Toni Erdmann
A warm-up screening ahead of Tyske Filmdager 2026
Welcome to “vorspiel”, the warm-up programme for Tyske Filmdager 2026. Get into the festival mood with two modern classics of German cinema. With Toni Erdmann, we present Maren Ade’s award-winning film, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and launched Sandra Hüller’s international career.
Despite all his antics, retired music teacher Winfried Conradi struggles with loneliness. His daughter Ines worries him in particular. She is pursuing a demanding career as a management consultant abroad. When Winfried’s dog dies, he spontaneously travels to Bucharest to visit his daughter. But she is not particularly pleased to see her father, who immediately interferes in her life and work, creates awkward situations in ridiculous disguises and, when necessary, acts as a cheeky impostor. It all escalates into an open confrontation which, incredibly, brings father and daughter closer again.
With Toni Erdmann, Maren Ade reinvented the German comedy genre. The film has received numerous awards and been acclaimed by audiences around the world. It was selected for the competition programme at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and went on to win, among other honours, five European Film Awards. For lead actor Sandra Hüller, who until then was best known in German-speaking countries and for her work on stage, Toni Erdmann launched an international film career. She has also been nominated for an Oscar for Anatomy of a Fall (2024) and the Golden Bear for Rose (2026).
