Memory of Princess Mumbi

A postwar science-fiction film about art and technology

Date Friday 13. November
Time 16:00

The year is 2093, and filmmaker Kuve travels to Umata to document life after a war that made all modern technology illegal.

The country of Umata lies on the African coast. Twenty years have passed since a world war, and in Umata and its neighbouring countries, the victorious traditionalist forces have banned all digital technology, which they claim has made the population depressed. European filmmaker Kuve is caught up in the middle of it all. He wants to make a documentary showing that the population is still depressed. In Umata, he recruits local actress Mumbi, who challenges him to make the film without artificial intelligence. A romance develops between them on set, but Mumbi has been promised to the prince of a neighbouring country.

Memory of Princess Mumbi is a hugely impressive micro-budget film that combines AI-generated visuals with a postmodern, self-reflexive story about art and technology. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year.
