Markens grøde
A Norwegian film adaptation of Knut Hamsun’s novel
Award-winning director Hans Petter Moland brings Knut Hamsun’s immortal masterpiece Markens grøde to the big screen, starring Herbert Nordrum («Verdens verste menneske») and Asta Kamma August («Hendelser ved Vann»). It is late autumn. Isak is fighting to survive in the wilderness. One day, Inger appears over the mountain. Love grows from an encounter born of hardship. In the unforgiving natural world, Isak and Inger fight to build a life together. Driven by love, they build the Sellanraa farm from nothing. When a dark secret comes to light, their love is put to the test. Other cast members include Gard B. Eidsvold, Anders Baasmo, Oddgeir Thune and Sjur Vatne Brean.
The film is based on Hamsun’s Nobel Prize-winning 1917 novel, one of the most important works in Norwegian cultural history. It is an epic story about love and humanity’s place in beautiful, unforgiving nature.
