Málagagaten
Málagagaten (Calle Málaga) is a heartwarming film starring Carmen Maura, known for her roles in Pedro Almodovar's films.
80-year-old Maria Angeles lives in the Spanish quarter of Tangier, Morocco. When Maria's daughter Clara finally comes for a long-awaited visit, it is to pressure her mother into selling her apartment so Clara can get out of financial trouble after a divorce. But Maria, who was born in Tangier, is deeply rooted in the local community and much loved by her neighbours, has no intention of moving... Resourceful as she is, she rolls up her sleeves and uses every trick she can to achieve her goal.
Málagagaten is a warm, moving and inspiring drama with plenty of humour. Legendary actor Carmen Maura (born in 1945) is on top form as Maria Angeles, showing that zest for life, determination and love need not end when you pass 80.
The film has won numerous awards, including the audience award at both the Venice Film Festival and Tromsø International Film Festival.
