This atmospheric period film clearly echoes Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love.
We meet the young translator Khang as he works on a translation of The Little Prince and moves in as a tenant with the widow Ky Nam (masterfully played by Do Thi Hai Yen, known from Tran Anh Hung’s The Vertical Ray of the Sun) in Saigon in 1985. As the relationship between him and his landlady grows closer, the neighbours’ gossip intensifies, while the underlying tensions of post-war Vietnam come to the surface.
