Hvalfugl

A resonant musical presence, ambient sounds and strong melodies come together as the trio Hvalfugl takes the stage. Jonathan Fjord Bredholt’s elegant piano figures and spacious harmonium textures intertwine with Jeppe Lavsen’s crystalline guitar themes and Anders Juel Bomholt’s lilting double bass, creating both a sense of unity and a wealth of detail.

Since their debut in 2017, the trio have established themselves as one of Denmark’s most distinctive instrumental groups, with a sound that moves freely between genres. Hvalfugl combine close interplay with dreamy ambient music and patiently unfolding musical passages, as beautiful melodies gradually open up for the listener.

The trio consists of Jonathan Fjord Bredholt (piano and harmonium), Jeppe Lavsen (guitar) and Anders Juel Bomholt (double bass). Their interplay balances warm acoustic sounds with subtle use of effects, creating a distinctive musical expression that is both intimate and insistent.

As a live band, Hvalfugl are known for their strong stage presence and ability to create a complete experience. The audience is invited into a musical universe of sublime beauty, where compositions intertwine into flowing, engaging sequences that move and delight. Their live performances were celebrated in 2025, when they received the «Årets Livenavn» award at DMA Jazz.

Over the years, Hvalfugl have continued to develop their musical universe and explore new directions. Their first three albums – «By» (2017), «Som En Faldskærm» (2019) and «Øjeblikke Vi Husker» (2020) – laid the foundation for the dreamy, spacious sound that defines them. On the double LP «Bag Vore Øjne Strømmer Drømme Sagte Forbi» (2025), they bring together three years of work and several EP releases in a single work. Their curiosity and desire to experiment with new musical ideas and guest musicians add even more unique elements to the trio’s sound.

Hvalfugl are a remarkably engaging live experience. We look forward to welcoming the trio back to Parkteatret!
