A talk on smartwatches, aging and health
A talk about new research on technology, aging and health.
What does it mean to age well, and how can we achieve it? There are many different answers. This morning, hear the latest research on how smartwatches and activity trackers may encourage physical activity and good health.
• Do we learn more about our bodies by measuring them?
• Do older people become more physically active when they use fitness watches?
• Do they stay young for longer?
• Do smartwatches give older people a greater sense of security?
• Could there be drawbacks to using these watches?
In this talk, Marte Knutsson from Norges idrettshøgskole presents her findings, based on interviews with a number of men and women aged 60 to 83. She explored what “successful aging” means, which social and cultural norms shape it, and how measuring health indicators relates to these ideals.
Knutsson presents her findings in a clear and accessible way. The talk lasts 30 minutes, followed by a discussion and questions.
