Gropiusstadt Supernova

Film screening with director Ben Voit

Date Tuesday 24. November
Time 17:30

A night that changes everything: With great energy and emotional force, Gropiusstadt Supernova tells the story of growing up on the outskirts of a major city. The film received the Max Ophüls Prize in 2026, and at Tyske Filmdager it will be presented by its director, Ben Voit.

Gropiusstadt, a suburb on the outskirts of Berlin. It is the last day of the year, charged with great expectations, especially for a group of young people: brothers Tarik and Luan, and Tarik’s girlfriend Stella. Tarik receives a letter informing him of his imminent deportation, Stella learns that she has been accepted to a theatre school abroad, and Luan wakes from a nightmare in which they both abandon him. After his brother goes into hiding and a failed ATM robbery causes a stir in the neighbourhood, Luan fears the worst. A race against time begins to avert Tarik’s fate. But the more Luan tries to stop what is about to happen, the more he loses his grip—and the lines between fantasy and reality begin to blur.

Gropiusstadt Supernova is director Ben Voit’s first feature film; he also wrote the screenplay. The film is inspired by his own experiences and those of his friends during their youth. Ben Voit portrays a time of upheaval, introducing us to the characters both as individuals and as part of a community. Audiences are drawn in by dreamlike images, a driving soundtrack and suspense that builds throughout the story. The film received the main prize for best feature film at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival.

We are especially looking forward to meeting Ben Voit, who will be present at Tyske Filmdager to introduce his film. After the screening, we invite you to a conversation with the filmmaker.
