Grand Island / 20 års jubileum på Kampen Bistro!
20th anniversary concert at Kampen Bistro
- Sold out
Grand Island is an energetic, frenetic carousel of blues, Southern rock, ska beats, bluegrass, singer-songwriter music and psychedelia. In 2006, they released their debut album, «Say no to sin», which was hailed as a wild cornucopia and took the band across Norway and Europe. After six albums, tours at home and abroad, Spellemann Award nominations and a short break from the stage, they’re delighted to celebrate the band’s 20th anniversary at Kampen Bistro.
Brothers Espen and Pål Gustavsen grew up on a mix of bluegrass, folk, Delta blues and rock, and Grand Island have also slipped in some British influences. Asked to describe their music, the band say: “We play anything that’s fun and gives us energy.” It’s as simple as that—and that’s exactly what it is: incredibly fun, enjoyable and energetic. Much of the cinematic quality of their sound probably comes from their love of film, especially films from the 1970s. Their music ranges from bluegrass and blues-inspired rock to a gypsy-punk mix that then shifts into almost synth-like pop rock. In other words, it’s a glorious blend of genres. Add a distinctive vocal that sounds like a Southern rocker devoted to rockabilly, and you’ve got a lively show. We’re looking forward to welcoming Grand Island to Kampen Bistro on Saturday, November 7, to celebrate 20 years together as a band.
