Frihetens Pris

Frihetens Pris — a film about family, censorship and authoritarianism

Date Wednesday 11. November
Time 17:30 - 19:38

Derya and Aziz are a celebrated theatre couple whose lives are shattered after the premiere of Aziz's latest play attracts the authorities' attention. Branded political dissidents, they both receive the feared “yellow letter” — an official notice dismissing them from their jobs and effectively erasing their place in public life. Forced to leave Ankara and seek refuge in Istanbul with Aziz's mother, they struggle to rebuild their lives. As the pressure of state persecution mounts, their marriage and relationship with their teenage daughter are pushed to the limit. Frihetens Pris combines an intimate family drama with a powerful portrait of censorship and authoritarianism.

The marriage of Derya and Aziz is under pressure after they lose their jobs because of state arbitrariness and move to Istanbul to live with Aziz's parents. They and their 13-year-old daughter Ezgi have to redefine their way of life.

Running time: 2 hours 8 minutes. Age limit: 12 years. 2D, original-language audio, English subtitles. Film fra Sør. Unreserved seating. Introduction. Hall 1.
