Franz

Director Agnieszka Holland is known for films such as Europa Europa (1990), In Darkness (2011) and Green Border (2023). She often portrays real events from Europe’s turbulent recent history with stark realism, but in her encounter with Franz Kafka she uses a dreamlike cinematic language that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality.

The result is a lively, poetic and unpredictable film that moves between different levels of reality. Kafka’s creative chaos unfolds in all its surreal splendour, with Idan Weiss in his first major film role. He creates an intense portrait of the iconic writer, capturing both Kafka’s vulnerability and his visionary nature. This is a fascinating visual journey into the mind of one of history’s most enigmatic writers.
