Everybody Digs Bill Evans

See Anders Danielsen Lie as the legendary Bill Evans.

In the summer of 1961, legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans (Anders Danielsen Lie) finds his musical ideal in his trio with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian. They record two groundbreaking albums. But when LaFaro is killed in a car accident, Evans’s world falls apart. Paralyzed by grief, he withdraws from music and the people around him as he struggles with addiction, self-doubt and the fear that he may never be able to play again. Director Grant Gee avoids the traditional musician biopic, instead creating an atmospheric portrait of an artist in crisis, told across different periods of time. With a brilliant Anders Danielsen Lie in the lead role, Everybody Digs Bill Evans explores how grief can paralyze creativity.
