Everybody Digs Bill Evans
A film portrait of jazz pianist Bill Evans
See Anders Danielsen Lie as the legendary Bill Evans.
In the summer of 1961, legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans (Anders Danielsen Lie) has found his musical ideal in his trio with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian. They record two groundbreaking albums. But when LaFaro dies in a car accident, Evans’s world falls apart. Paralyzed by grief, he withdraws from music and the people around him, as he struggles with addiction, doubt and the fear that he may never play again. Director Grant Gee avoids the traditional musician biopic, creating instead an atmospheric portrait of an artist in crisis, told across different periods of time. With a brilliant Anders Danielsen Lie in the lead role, Everybody Digs Bill Evans explores how grief can paralyze creativity.
