Et lite stykke Finland
Et lite stykke Finland — a documentary about family in rural Finland
On the Finnish countryside, Tero, Henri and their dog Juri live together in a small house. Tero has been a single father to Henri for much of his life, and has taught his son what he knows best, such as shooting a shotgun and repairing cars. Despite Tero’s somewhat unusual parenting methods and occasional heavy drinking, father and son share a strong bond and an unconditional love for each other. When the teenage Henri gets a girlfriend and wants more privacy, Tero experiences severe separation anxiety and fears losing his son and the meaning of his life.
“Et lite stykke Finland” is a dryly witty, warm and moving documentary about the importance of family, companionship and love. The film is directed by Jukka Kärkkäinen, who followed Tero and Henri over several years. He has previously made award-winning films such as “The Living Room of the Nation” and “The Punk Syndrome”.
