Pirati is the matriarch of a small Kinnar community in a Nepalese village. She has taken a vow to abstain from romantic relationships, but all she wants is to run away with her lover. When one of her children goes missing, she is forced to choose between love and the responsibilities she carries as a mother and leader.
Elephants in the Fog is a tender and powerful story about the strong bond between mother and daughter, while also exploring what it is like to live outside society’s established gender norms. The film is supported by Sørfond and won the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
