A powerful story from Nepal that won the Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes this year.

Elephants in the Fog is a tender and powerful story about the strong bond between mother and daughter, and explores what it can mean to live outside society’s established gender norms. Supported by Sørfond, the film won the Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Pirati is the matriarchal leader of a small Kinnar community in a Nepalese village. She has vowed to abstain from romantic relationships, but all she wants is to run away with her lover. When one of her children goes missing, she is forced to choose between love and the responsibilities she carries as a mother and leader.
