A documentary about forgiveness and new beginnings
An argument over a jacket leads to two brothers being stabbed in their own neighbourhood in Oslo. They suffer life-threatening injuries, with blood pouring and their lives hanging by a thread. The attackers are people they themselves considered friends. The brothers are left for dead, but survive against all odds. What follows is a choice few would be able to make. Instead of seeking revenge, they choose to forgive. As they say in the film: “Forgiveness helps prevent violence. Not forgiving leads to greater consequences.” The documentary follows the brothers in the aftermath of the violence, as they leave a criminal environment and move towards a life shaped by responsibility, reflection and new opportunities. As they fight to save themselves, they also become role models for other young people at risk of making the same choices.
The film also turns its attention to wider social challenges. In some urban areas in Norway, exclusion, a lack of belonging and difficult living conditions can contribute to increased crime. But there are alternatives. There are adults who notice, listen and offer guidance. There are places where young people can experience achievement, community and safety, and discover that other paths are possible.
