After a short European tour in 2023, with sold-out shows in London and Paris, and more recent appearances in South America and Japan, the ’90s band Codeine returns to play a dozen shows. The tour marks the release of Dessau, an album recorded in 1992 but only recently released by archival label Numero Group. At the same time, the band’s original releases on Sub Pop and Glitterhouse are being reissued on remastered vinyl.

These will be Codeine’s very first shows in Turkey, Sweden and Norway, as well as their first appearances in several cities in Belgium, France, Germany and Italy.

With the release of Frigid Stars LP in 1990, Codeine was almost alone in defining what would later become known as “slowcore”. The album came a full five years before influential releases by related bands such as Low and Duster. Codeine’s slow, understated and elegant songs feature lyrics that portray depression and alienation with unsettling delicacy.
