When supermarket clerk Ding Mao accidentally boils the store’s decorative shark alive, his life spins out of control.
Shortly afterwards, he hears a mysterious voice urging him to travel to his hometown in northeastern China and try to find his father, whom he has not seen for 20 years. Along the way, encounters with eccentric characters help him piece together his father’s bizarre life. This is a poignant, ambitious and strikingly beautiful surrealist drama.
