When supermarket clerk Ding Mao accidentally boils the store’s ornamental shark alive, his life spins out of control.
Soon afterwards, he hears a mysterious voice urging him to travel to his hometown in Northeast China to look for his father, whom he has not seen in 20 years. Along the way, he begins to piece together his father’s bizarre life through encounters with eccentric characters. This is a poignant, ambitious and strikingly beautiful surrealist drama.
