Ane Brun sets out on an extensive Nordic tour this spring, with concerts in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The tour follows the release of her new studio album, I Thought We Were The Same, her first album of new material in six years.

Transformation. Ane Brun’s musical journey is a textbook example of just that. When she made her debut around 20 years ago with the brilliant album Spending Time With Morgan, she was a talented performer of stripped-back acoustic indie folk. Today, Ane Brun has moved far beyond genres and labels. She has boldly explored everything from orchestral pop and electronic experimentation to heartrending interpretations and stripped-back, story-led piano music. Always with an unfiltered authenticity and uncompromising approach, she has become one of the most acclaimed artists in all of Scandinavia. With a unique position as both Sweden and Norway are home, she has received awards and acclaim on both sides of the border, including two Swedish Grammis awards for Best Alternative Pop Album and Composer of the Year, as well as several Norwegian Spellemann awards.

The last time Ane Brun released a regular studio album was in 2020, when she put out the two remarkable records After The Great Storm and How Beauty Holds The Hand Of Sorrow. That does not mean she has been idle—in fact, quite the opposite. The past six years have been eventful. She has toured extensively, played festivals and completed two European tours. The most recent took place in 2023, when she celebrated 20 years as an artist. She also spent two seasons at GöteborgsOperan with the production 12 Songs, in which Kenneth Kvarnström interpreted her music with the opera’s orchestra and dance company, in a performance featuring choreography and grand stage design.

There has also been plenty of music: Nærmere, an album featuring Norwegian versions of her own songs; the compilations Portrayals and Songs 2013–2023; and the live album 20th Anniversary Tour. During this period, she has also written and co-produced her first studio album of new material in six years.

With the singles “Hand in the Fire”, “Two in This Story”, “Hold Me” and her latest release, the Röyksopp collaboration “Eat The Fruit”, Ane Brun turns the page and begins a new chapter in a musical journey spanning more than 20 years. The album I Thought We Were The Same revolves around trust and betrayal, both on a personal level and in a wider context, where trust is challenged in an era shaped by artificial intelligence, deepfakes and geopolitical instability. A few months after the album’s release, Ane Brun sets out on an extensive Nordic tour, with several stops in Sweden and Norway, as well as concerts in Helsinki and Copenhagen.

The forthcoming album can be seen as a continuation of 2020’s After The Great Storm, with a bigger sound and a more pop-oriented approach taking centre stage. This sound will also be developed further on stage as Ane Brun invites audiences into her ever-changing musical universe.
