Allvei | 24 november | 20:00 | cover charge 250 + fee. Allvei is an international trio featuring guitarist Eivind J. Vullum (NO), saxophonist Jerzy Mączyński (PL) and drummer Nicolas Stocker (CH). Their music lies at the intersection of free ambient and leftfield jazz. Their debut album, "Allvei - S/T", is released on VIBRASJON on 23 Oct. On 24 november, the trio celebrates the release at Kafé Hærverk with a world premiere, performing the album in its entirety for the very first time. Allvei is a dialect word originating in northwestern Norway, but it has universal resonance, with similarities to the English word “Always”. As well as describing eternity in time, it can also directly mean infinity in space—a fitting term for the trio’s musical experiments in stretching time and working within a continuously changing sonic landscape. Led by Vullum, whose background includes being a key contributor to Oslo’s experimental and electronic music scene, «Allvei - S/T» was recorded over two intense sessions, before and after a series of audiovisual concerts the trio performed in collaboration with Polish artist Katarzyna Dębska in Norway and Poland. Drawing on Vullum’s background as a sound designer, the form and structure of the compositions strongly shape the music’s dynamics and narrative elements. With contributions from Mączyński and Stocker, both acclaimed musicians on the European jazz scene, the music takes a rhythmic, improvised and experimental approach, combining elements of free jazz, orchestral drone and cinematic ambient music. Even before its release, the album has received praise and airplay, including on Mary Anne Hobbs’ programme on BBC 6 Music, Elizabeth Alker’s 'Unclassified' on BBC Radio 3, and Ruben Gran’s Jazzkassa on NRK Jazz.
