9 Temples to Heaven
Film screening
A family embarks on a temple-to-temple road trip in this beautiful, meditative film.
When Sokol, a man in his sixties, is told by a fortune teller that his elderly mother will soon die, he vows to do whatever he can to save her—whether in this life or the next. With his family in tow, he takes his mother to various temples, hoping that the list of rituals and ceremonies he has received can truly change her fate.
Warm and melancholic in equal measure, 9 Temples to Heaven is a film in no hurry, letting each moment breathe.
The film is the debut feature by Sompot Chidgasornpongse, who has worked as an assistant director on several of Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s films. It is Thailand’s submission this year for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
